This past Sunday morning I joined Joel and completed a nearly 33 mile ride we refer to as the “Crownridge to Boerne” ride. Yesterday, Marco and I added almost 26 miles after surviving heat and strong headwinds on the “Helotes Loop.”
So here I am, on Wednesday morning, at 58 miles for the week. I’m not sure this qualifies as a record for me but it feels good to have that kind of mileage with several days left in the week.
I know. I know. You may be sitting back saying, “I do 60 miles every Sunday morning.”
I know that is true for many cyclists. And, someday, I hope it may be something I’ll say I’ve done as well (that may be…VERY soon…as I’m currently still planning to join the MS 150 “Bike to the Beach” ride…which has first day mileage of about 90 miles!).
Having said that, mileage is just one way to enhance a workout. The other is average speed and that is something I have been trying to edge upwards. On some of my first road bicycle rides in April, I averaged about 12mph. Most of my rides now are averaging between 14 and 16mph. So…there is hope!
Ultimately, I have not lost sight of some basic facts. Cycling and the resulting exercise associated with it have become an integral part of my life and I can see and feel the positive changes to my overall health.
So…get on your bike and ride…you won’t regret it!
