Having logged over 1,000 miles on my Trek Valencia since purchasing the bicycle in December of last year, I thought I’d take a moment to pause and reflect.
- At the risk of disturbing the karma, the Bontrager Race Lite Hardcase tires have been flat free. This is the longest duration of flat free miles I’ve experienced. I’m very impressed since my bicycle commute involves bicycle lanes and highway access road shoulders that are full of glass and debris. Wow!
- The bike seems to really be “in its element” – it has required very little maintenance and the last several hundred miles has been hassle-free. It’s shifting nicely, braking with authority, etc.
Overall, I’m quite pleased with its performance. It has handled adverse weather conditions, withstood brutal pavement challenges and always manages to get me to my destination in safety and style.
We’ll see how she’s doing at the 2,000 mile mark. So far, the Trek Valencia continues to earn its keep as Trek’s “killer commuter”.
As a tribute to this fine bike, I’ve created a special group of photos of my Valencia on Flickr.

Awesome – here's to another 1,000
Here's to another 1000! Feels great, doesn't it!
I have only racked 512 miles on mine so far, which is nothing like your 1000, but I bought it at the end of February, and my actual commute to work is only 2.5 kms each way. But as it's summer, I am having an easier time to rack kms up. I'm going out of town to friends by bike (30 kms each way) and camping overnight this weekend. Yeh!
Thanks for the update! I originally found your blog while looking for reviews on the Valencia. I am thinking about purchasing a Valencia when I move to Dallas in a couple of months. In a previous post, you mentioned looking at few bike shops in the Dallas area. Are there any you would recommend?
Hi,
Thank you for your great review.
Im ready to order valencia online.
Im 176cm height.
Which size you believe is the right for me?
Thank you in advance
That's great. I will be getting a Valencia within a few months. I did have some questions though. What accessories do you have for your bike (rack, lights, lock, etc.)? I'm new to the biking community and will start biking to work when I get the bike, but I wanted to know what to get besides the bike. I am going to buy it at a Trek Store, so I know they can give me ideas on what I will need, but I would also like to know what you recommend. Thanks!
I use and highly recommend the following accessories on my Trek Valencia:
Topeak EX and DXP Bicycle Bags
Topeak Explorer Bicycle Rack
Seca 400 Headlight
A cheapo Trek combo lock (bike parking at my employer is inside a parking garage, right next to the entrance with security cameras covering the area!).
Since I am an admitted "bicycle light junkie" I use on a regular basis (although not all at the same time) the following bicycle tail lights:
Princeton Tec "Swerve"
Blackburn Mars 3.0 & 4.0
Planet Bike Superflash
Niterider "Cherry Bomb"
