1.3 million people live in San Antonio, TX – the seventh largest city in the United States.

There are 3 active League Cycling Instructors in San Antonio.

Yeah, we have our work cut out for us.

No doubt our success, then, relies upon our ability to find great partners that can help us support cycling education in San Antonio.

VIA Metropolitan Transit is one of those partners thanks to the leadership of planner, Abigail Kinnison.  From the moment we announced our intentions of introducing the League of American Bicyclists’ Smart Cycling program to San Antonio, VIA stepped up to the plate to provide, at no charge, conference rooms and parking lot space.  In addition, they sent their ride supervisors to attend one of our classes as an educational opportunity and in support of their own cycling program which involves the potential of ride supervisors and transit police using bicycles as part of their job.  This kind of partnership quickly facilitates our ability to offer classes like Traffic Skills 101 to the citizens of San Antonio at a time when cycling in the Alamo City continues to rise.

We also enjoy a great relationship with Julia Diana and Lydia Kelly – bicycle coordinators for San Antonio and Bexar County, respectively.  Their continued efforts to support cycling education, infrastructure and awareness is putting San Antonio on the map as a cycling destination.  Lydia even joined us for one of our Traffic Skills 101 classes and her testimonial about the experience has certainly convinced others to come our way.

So…yes, we’ve got our work cut out for us.  With partners like these, however, I think we have a good chance of helping an increasing number of cyclists in San Antonio learn how to ride their bicycles for fun, transportation and more!
