In 2011, riding my bicycle to/from work helped me avoid purchasing 100 gallons of gasoline which put just over $300 back in my pocket. Thank you, bicycle! Thanks to Garmin Connect it’s easy to look back and analyze my 2011 bicycle mileage: Transportation: 1,190 miles (commuting, errands) Training: 607 miles (prep for cycling events like Tour de Cure) Fitness: 240 miles [...]
Being overtaken by a thunderstorm is quite an experience. The sudden tailwind of the thunderstorm’s gust front was a temporary blessing followed by the loud collision of fat water droplets bouncing off my bicycle helmet. Seconds later, I was riding in a deluge. That was the experience for me during the last six miles or so of the 2011 La [...]
Last weekend I biked 110 miles from San Antonio to Austin, TX as a participant in the annual Tour de Cure event. This was my first major ride in 2011 and in a word it was : Incredible. Why? A great cause: I was able to raise over $500 to support the American Diabetes Association and the 24 million children [...]

Once again, several members of my family plan to participate in the Conquer The Coast bike ride. Last year, we survived a literal deluge of rain and had to admit that it was the coast doing the conquering. We hope to settle the score in a couple of weeks! David and I will be participating in the 65 mile tour. [...]
Before long, cycling events like Conquer The Coast and the Valero MS-150 will be right around the corner. While I’ve been able to ride almost every week, it will soon be time to increase both the duration and the frequency of my rides in order to prepare for long distance cycling.
Justin (left), Tanner (center), David (right) David (bro-in-law) and Tanner (nephew) have expressed an interest in participating in the 2008 Valero MS-150 “Bike to the Beach” event in October. As a result, we’ve been getting more consistent on our rides and are starting to increase ride distance, duration and intensity. I’m very proud of both of them! I’m also very [...]
Happy New Year! Being a Bike Geek has its advantages. Since all of the information from my rides is captured on my Garmin Edge GPS cycling computer and uploaded to Motionbased.com, it takes just a few seconds to see what my total 2007 stats turned out to be. Here are the numbers! I cycled 1,072.15 miles and climbed a total [...]
Our group and a chance encounter with the Valero MS150 SAG-wagon This morning I joined Marco, Barbie, Bob and a couple of his friends on a 41 mile training ride for the Valero MS-150. It was an incredible workout with a great group of riders. I’m not cycling in the MS-150 this year but am happy to join my friends [...]
